Love, is a beautiful thing.

My beloved and I had our 5 year anniversary this past Thursday. We celebrate a few weeks ago, when some of Joel’s sisters stayed overnight at our house to watch our children, while Joel and I spent the evening and next morning together in Sioux Falls. Joel surprised me with a couple’s massage at Spa 2000, and a delicious supper at Old Chicago Pizza. He then surprised me again by reserving a beautiful whirlpool suite at a nearby hotel.

On the actual day of our anniversary, we couldn’t have asked for a better way to spend our day, due to the fact that we attended a rehearsal for our siblings wedding that evening. This lovely occasion brought back so many fond memories of Joel and my wedding day. As I stood on the steps at the front of church listening to how the wedding ceremony would go, I couldn’t help but glance at my dear husband and be amazed at how blessed we are and how my love for him has grown. 5 years has brought many changes in our life together, but God has always been so faithful and has never left our side.

It brought tears to my eyes, thinking of the change that we will have to face again…Valen moving away. But yet, I am so happy for them, because knowing what I know now of how God has worked in my heart and in my marriage to Joel, I can see that God has many special plans for Kurt and Valen, and their love will continue to grow for each other as the years go by. I know I love Joel more today than I did on my wedding day. I would never have thought that that was possible 5 years ago! I thought my heart could have burst with love for him that day…but my heart truly overflows with love for him today. As Song of Solomon 3:4 says “I found him whom my soul loveth: I held him, and would not let him go.”

I am so grateful that God that He has given me the privilege of loving such a God-fearing and caring husband. And having the pleasure of knowing his love for me. I pray that God will continue to be with us, and guide us so that we can be faithful to that picture of what marriage is…Christ and His bride, the church.  And also so that we can be dedicated to the instruction and love of our children, so that the generations following us will find us faithful in our love and devotion to our Heavenly Father….and continue in our footsteps leading to Him.
