A Whirlwind of a Weekend…

Family coming, school picnic, Tyler’s baptism, followed by dinner at Dad and Mom V.E.’s house, Memorial Day cook-out, saying tough goodbyes…

…it was an emotional, busy, and yet in many ways, lovely weekend.

We had gorgeous weather and lots of good fellowship. It was so wonderful to spend a few days surrounded by family that we love so dearly. That was the lovely part….But the “good-byes” are always so hard. That was the emotional part. We hated to see B.J. and Sarah’s family move so far away, and also see some of our visiting relatives and friends, go back home…but we also know that the Lord is with each of our loved ones, even though we are living so distant from some of them.

Dad and Mom D.J., Lanae, Ethan, Kurt and Valen, and Dave V.D.N. (a sweet friend of the family) arrived Saturday morning. They drove through the night, so they arrived pretty tired.

Some relaxed or napped, while some of the others went over to the baseball field to play softball for a couple hours before the school picnic.

Kate and Auntie Val seemed inseparable! She LOVES Auntie Valen…but then again, who doesn’t?!?! Smile

Moriah enjoyed exploring around the dug-out while the others were playing ball.

Levi enjoyed the nice weather as well as watching the others play ball.

Dave was thrilled to meet and hold little Tyler for the first time. We were so happy that he could make the trip out here!

On Sunday, Tyler was baptized. It was also Pentecost Sunday and Reverend Overway did a very edifying sermon from Isaiah 43. His text was taken from verses 3-5, “The Spirit Poured Upon Jacob’s Seed”.

Tyler made it through baptism, but then I had to walk out of the sanctuary right afterwards…that cold water dripping on his head sure woke him up!

He sure looked adorable in his white, satin suit. I made sure to make time to have his and our family picture taken before we went to church, just in case he would do a dirty pants in that white outfit!

Grandpa D.J. adored holding his little grandson.

So did Auntie Lanae and Uncle Ethan!

On Memorial Day we invited Dad and Mom V.E. and Joel’s siblings over for lunch. Everyone contributed to the meal by bringing their own meat to grill and a salad or dessert of some sort. It ended up being a huge spread of food by the time everyone’s contributions were lined up on the tables!

Before Grandpa D.J. and Uncle Kurt left, we snapped a few pictures of the kids with them. This picture of Grandpa with our little girls melts my heart! They sure loved being by Grandpa!

Joel decided he had to be in the picture too, I guess.

…we did a retake after he moved on his way.

I didn’t take a lot of pictures, due to the busyness of the day, but we sure did have a wonderful time together!

  2. Michelle -
Just caught this post! The kids are napping - I'll share it with them when they wake up. And I'm going to print the peaches in the snow recipe, too. :)
    Love,
    Sarah
