Levi’s New Look

IMG_1795

Yes, Levi now has glasses. After we got back from our vacation in Illinois, I found out that my nephew, Evan, had his vision tested at school and one of his eyes tested very poorly. His Mom received a letter letting her know that one of Evan’s eyes tested 20/20 while his other eye couldn’t hardly see at all. She took him to the ophthalmologist and he mentioned to her that this condition is hereditary and she should have her other children tested as well. When I heard that the condition was hereditary, it got me to thinking that some of our kids could have the same problem, since my brother and now two of my nephews had this same eye condition. I decided that I should test Levi to see if he could possibly have eye problems. I first tried testing Levi’s eyes at home. I stood about 4-5 feet away from our fridge with him and told him to tell me which magnetic letters of the alphabet I had placed on the fridge. When I covered his right eye, he read the letters quickly and correctly. When I covered his left eye, however, he tried pushing my hand away, or moving his head to get out from behind my hand. He tried guessing at the letters and didn’t get a single one correct. I was so shocked! I called to schedule an ophthalmology appointment and they were able to see him the next day already. The doctor confirmed that Levi right eye was really bad and that he needed glasses and also needs to wear a patch over his left eye to strengthen his right one. He only has to wear it for about an hour a day, which isn’t too bad, and we’re just thankful we caught it early so that it can hopefully have a better “chance” of being fully corrected.IMG_1795

When I took Kate in to her routine check-up at her ophthalmologist he advised that she wear a patch too since her right eye is beginning to occasionally cross in again.

Here’s a picture of Levi and Kate wearing their patches together…and Kate’s puppy as well. She gave us such a hard time with putting it on, until I suggested that we also put a patch on Puppy. Kate liked that idea and now doesn’t give us any problems at all with wearing her patch. :)  When it’s time to take Kate and Puppy’s patch off, it’s really cute to watch Kate praise her puppy for wearing the patch! “You did such a good job, Puppy!”,  she’ll say over an over and give her puppy plenty of squeezes and smooches. :)

I should also mention that I had both Moriah and Tyler tested and it seems like their eyes are fine.

  1. He is so handsome. And what a genious idea to patch puppy, too! I can just picture/hear her praising that thing. . . haha!
